Looking for a cash cow? If you are hoping to turn that collection of poems into a lucrative career, you might want a backup plan.
Writing poetry is very rewarding, but not usually in ways that may fatten your wallet. Even the best-known poets typically also teach, work in the publishing industry, journalism, or in some other field.
Publishers rarely make money on a poetry collection because the market for poetry is quite small resulting in little to no profits. While I cannot say it is impossible to make money at poetry it is very difficult. In upcoming posts we will take a look into poetry and money.
Always remember to do what you love with all your heart and flesh when it comes to poetry. The rewards of giving it every drop of blood that you have shall come from your peers and that breeds notoriety. The more your name is associated with other poets and with awards the more likely you can turn your writing career into a cash cow.
Now go write something and share it!!
