Poetry Spotlight Saturday: "Sunday"

Sunday
by Brittany Martin

I listened:

"I want lamb to feast the meadows,
and a goose to eat bending flowers.
Because earthly mountain is a buffet,
we should feed this food as ours...

“I want a man to rest from politics,
as woman is to love and wed.
I ask for rest to each heavy eye,
and the lust to create a birth in bed.

"I want the grapes to be tasted,
as if it were my own perished blood.
Live the taste of crumbs of bread
feeding off from men to mud.

"l want this natural and realistic
across all this land of earth.
I ask for a water fountain to share
the kingdom with all the mirth.

With all this gifted, this is to stay,
after worship through those with hope
when awakened unpon a Sunday
after the morning sun does scope”

Writers Speaking: Robert Frost

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness.

Poetry Spotlight Saturday: "Dream"

Dream
by Shishur Gupta

Away from reality,
as yet drawn from it,
convulted,contorted,mixed and combinational,
it also took on permutations,
till the time it lasted,
it had me glued and pasted,
I still recall it,
in patches though,
it reflects my inner urges,
and finalities,
as many would deny them,
but I insist,
them as finals,
they can churn stomachs,
but thats the way they are,
I see day time heroes as rogues,
and heroines as swines,
saints as devils,
and vice versa,
is this reality,
or the one I wake into,
I insist 'the reality' is my dream,
let others disagree,
let them also dream!

Poetry Reading: Ted Hughes

"The Thought Fox" considered by many to be Hughes' best piece. Mocking and clever an excellent read! Enjoy!

Poetry Reading: Aphra Behn

"The Dream", written by Aphra Behn. I have no idea who the actress is reciting the poem, but she does a good job. I prefer straight recitals of classic poetry but wanted to try something different. What do you think? Do you want more readings like this (acted out) or just the voice?

Poetry Spotlight Saturday: "Waiting For The Grain"

Waiting For the Grain
by Tatyana Carney

empty palette
barren wood
suddenly
misunderstood
blown enigma
oil paint
into the grain
to dry and wait
artist notion
brilliant mind
palette patient
to unwind
raw emotion
canvas full
fingerprinted
from a girl
brushes cleaning
palette eyes
work of art
she gently *sighs*...

Poetry Reading: E.E. Cummings

I found another original reciting by E.E. Cummings. This is "Anyone Lived in a Pretty How Town". It is to me so incredible to hear a writer of a classic poem read their works as it was intended to be read. Enjoy!

My Experiment

Why do you write?  Why are people reading you?  Ever ask yourself those questions?  When marketing your book the only way to know your intended market is to ask questions.

Years ago at an online poetry community I posted some of my works.  Nobody really noticed and my work wasn't reviewed.  The whole point of joining that community was to get a handle on exactly who my audience would be for what I was writing.  The problem was you need an audience before you can answer those questions.
