The Partnership of Writing

Writing is a partnership between your heart and mind.  Learning to trust what you write can be the most difficult part about poetry.  For the most part, a poem usually infers to much more than the amount of space it takes up.  Novels and stories have the luxury of getting into details and spoon feeding the readers picture maker.  A poet uses less words and must have a little trust in their word choice.  It is the ability to choose the right words that help a poet stand out in a crowd.

In order to build that trust you must always build your database.  When reading books, magazines, newspapers, blogs and so on keep a little notebook handy.  Any words that you do not know or seldom see used write down into this notebook.  Look up their meanings and a sample sentence or use the sentence you found the word in.  When not writing read your self-made writing tool book.  The more comfort you build between words and you the more trust you will create.  Trust between your heart and mind will lend to better poetry.

Okay so go write something already :)
